If you are unsure whether this course is appropriate for your skill level, then it likely is. If you have never had formal firearms training, then this course is geared for you. Finally, if you have never had a basic pistol course and would like to attend a “Pistol 2” type courses with other firearms instructors, they will need proof of formal Basic Pistol training. This IS NOT a CCW course; however, it is a perfect precursor OR follow-up to the CCW course because many CCW courses do not teach how to shoot.

Course Overview

Basic Pistol is a one day course intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience. Course address will be provided upon registration to protect the privacy and safety of our students.

Restrictions

You must be legally permitted to handle a firearm to take this course.

Please note that federal and Tennessee state laws restrict certain individuals from possessing firearms. You may not register for this course if you:

  • Are under the age of 18 for long guns or under the age of 21 for handguns (unless accompanied by a guardian).
  • Have been convicted of a felony.
  • Are currently subject to a restraining order for harassment, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such partner.
  • Have been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
  • Have been adjudicated as a mental defective or have been committed to a mental institution.
  • Are an unlawful user of, or addicted to, any controlled substance.
  • Have been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces.
  • Have renounced your United States citizenship.
  • Are under indictment for a felony.
  • Are not a United States citizen or a legal permanent resident.

All students are expected to comply with all local, state, and federal laws when handling firearms. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

Evaluation Method

  • Continual observation to ensure firearms safety rules are adhered to.

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites.

However, you must complete our FREE New Shooter Orientation prior to the start of the course. This free orientation takes about an hour to attend and will set the foundation for you to attend Basic Pistol.

Gear List

  • 100 Rounds of target ammunition (Please contact us if you don’t know what to get)
  • A reliable pistol (No AR/AK Pistols)
  • At least 2 Magazines for your Pistol
  • Eye and ear protection (Electronic ear protection preferred)
  • Note-taking material
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Seasonal appropriate attire
  • Gun case or bag to transfer your pistol to and from the range
  • Prescription glasses and contacts if needed for near/far

  • If family or personal emergencies prevent you from attending, you may transfer your registration to a later course date scheduled within one (1) year of the course you originally registered for.
